Los Cabos, Baja California

Los Cabos is the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. I was hesitant about the location considering the reputation of Cabo San Lucas as a party destination, but we were confident about the coastline's natural beauty and decided to go exploring. We stayed on the Pacific side at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Resort, and took day trips to Todos Santos, Santa Maria Beach, San Jose del Cabo, and a snorkel tour out beyond the famous arch. Believe it or not, we were pleased by everything. The resort provided much needed afternoon A/C (hot hot hot time to travel!), the people were especially nice, and the scenery and towns were colorful and relaxing. I think Cabo needs a re-marketing mission. It's time for perceptions to move beyond squid row!

Sea Turtles With Kids

Last year I posted about my business partner's annual trip to Baja. It's been such a hit for the entire family that they now go twice a year - and this time, they got to see the baby turtles. I loved seeing these shots of their girls imagining life as a baby sea turtle. If this isn't a case for the benefits of travel, I'm not sure what is.

This post is part of Photo Friday, a weekly exchange of travel stories and inspirations.

Mexico City

Mexico has gotten a lot of press recently, and my compassion goes out to those disrupted by quarantines and health fears. In spring of 2002 I traveled to Mexico City with my husband and our good friend Tim. I was so taken by the culture, history and scenery, that I hope to travel there again someday. The Zocalo in Mexico City blew me away. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed looking at them again.

Now, I just need to figure out where the parks and playgrounds are for my next trip. Maybe I'll check out Photo Friday for ideas.

A Little Baja Goes a Long Way

This week I'm featuring my friend and business partner Annabel Heinemann for Photo Friday. The Heinemanns vacation in Baja at least once a year, meeting up with various families for a windsurfing extravaganza at a beach town called Los Barriles, which is an hour north of Cabo on the Sea of Cortez. Most of the friends they meet are camping for several months, so Annabel is a quickie with a mere 3-week stay. Needless to say, her family comes back tan, relaxed and happy. And isn't that what traveling is all about?
